Microplastic contamination pathways in the semi-enclosed freshwater basin of Lake Como, Italy

Microplastics (MPs) are ubiquitous contaminants increasingly detected in aquatic environments. This study investigates MP contamination pathways in the semi-enclosed Lake Como basin, assessing inputs from Wastewater Treatment Plants, rivers, and storm events, and their distribution in lake waters and sediments using microscopy and Py-GC/MS analysis.
